Zack Snyder’s version of ‘Rebel Moon’ for ages 17 and older is “a bit crazier” than the streaming-friendly edition.
The first part of the two-part sci-fi series, titled ‘Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire,’ will be released on Netflix on December 22, followed by ‘Rebel Moon – Part Two: Scargiver’ in the spring. Both films by the 57-year-old director are rated suitable for ages 12 and up, but the filmmaker has also planned “tougher” versions for adults. He is very proud of both versions.
Speaking to the ‘SFX’ magazine, he said, “I’m super proud of the youth-friendly version. I don’t feel like it’s an inferior version. That being said, just for my personal aesthetic, the tougher R-rated version of the film, the edgier version, is a bit crazier, and that may not have as much appeal. For me, it’s more fun. But I’m really very proud of what we’ve done with the version for ages 12 and up.”
Although Zack believes that the films are “fun” for children, he did not have a young audience in mind when working on the project. He said, “Is ‘Lord of the Rings’ something for children? Children can enjoy it, and it’s definitely fun to watch, but it’s not necessarily geared towards children. Even in the youth-friendly incarnation of this film, it’s much more mature fantasy; it has an adult aesthetic.”
