概要
愛する妻に先立たれ、古い一軒家にひとりで住むカールじいさん。彼の家がある地区に開発の波が押し寄せ、ついにカールじいさんも立ち退きを余儀なくされる。そこでカールじいさんは亡き妻エリーと約束を交わしたが実現しなかった、南米の美しい秘境、パラダイスの滝への旅を思い立ち、彼女との思い出が詰まった家に無数の風船をつけて空に飛び上がると南に向かう。ところが家にはいつの間にか近所のラッセルが入り込んでいてた。
