De Indianenoorlogen zijn voorbij en William F. Cody voert deze historische scenes opnieuw op als massa-entertainment in zijn Wild West show, ter ondersteuning van zijn eigen heldenrol als de legendarische Buffalo Bill. Hij is Oostindisch doof voor het bijtende commentaar van schrijver Ned Buntline, die weet dat Cody een nep-held is, slechts een fantasieheld gebaseerd op een klein stukje waarheid.
