Câu chuyện diễn ra vào năm 1944 trong Thế chiến II, kể về Julien Dandieu, một bác sĩ phẫu thuật người Pháp hòa bình, trở thành một chiến binh sau khi gia đình ông bị quân Đức sát hại dã man. Ông sử dụng một khẩu súng cũ để trả thù từng binh sĩ Đức. Bộ phim lấy cảm hứng từ vụ thảm sát có thật ở Oradour-sur-Glane.
