James Cameron’s sci-fi vision continues as an anime series. Netflix’s Geeked Week is coming to an end, but not before we get a brief glimpse of an exciting anime venture.
Sometime in 2024, “Terminator” will arrive as an anime series, and now the first teaser is released. It may seem a bit thin: we don’t get a single frame from the series, and the title itself isn’t entirely confirmed yet. But it feels like an exciting new format for a film franchise that has been on the back burner for several years. I’m at least excited about whatever this turns out to be.
Behind “Terminator: The Anime Series” (or whatever it will be called) are Skydance, Japanese Production I.G. (known for “Ghost in the Shell”), and showrunner Mattson Tomlin (“Project Power,” “Mother/Android”). The story takes us to both 2022, where the war against the machines is in full swing, and back to 1997, the year when the AI project Skynet goes haywire.
