The Targaryen dynasty is in a civil war in the second season of HBO’s fantasy success. It’s been over a year since “House of the Dragon,” HBO’s spinoff prequel to the monster hit “Game of Thrones,” premiered. In the first season of the series, we followed King Viserys Targaryen during a golden era in the history of Westeros, when the Targaryen family ruled the kingdom from the backs of their visually impressive dragons. However, nothing good lasts forever, and an unclear succession order becomes the perfect excuse for internal disputes that escalate into violence.
The upcoming second season will follow the escalating and increasingly bloody conflict between “the Blacks” (the faction supporting Rhaenyra as queen) and “the Greens” (the faction that wants to see Aegon on the throne). There will be intrigues, military campaigns, and dragons aplenty as the contenders for the throne clash, and the rest of Westeros is forced to choose sides.
Among the actors returning to their roles from season 1 are Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, and Matthew Needham. Several new names have also joined the cast, including Simon Russell Beale (“Death of Stalin”) and Freddie Fox (“The Great”).
The second season of “House of the Dragon” premieres this summer and will consist of eight episodes. You can watch the new trailer below.
