Chad Stahelski revealed his strong desire to helm a ‘Star Wars’ film. The ‘John Wick’ filmmaker expressed being a huge fan of the legendary science fiction franchise and mentioned having ideas for a movie within the franchise.
During an interview with Josh Horowitz on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Chad said, “I’m a ‘Star Wars’ guy. The first ‘Star Wars’ changed my life. Maybe Disney will reach out to me someday, a few years down the road, if they’re listening. I have a couple of takes on ‘Star Wars.’ I would try it and see if Disney could handle me.”
Up until now, the director has been behind the camera for the four ‘John Wick’ movies and explained that he’s been cautious about working on other franchises because of the creative compromises he might have to make. “I’ve often been asked, ‘Why do you make ‘John Wick’ movies? Don’t you want to try something else?’ Yes, of course, I do, but given the choices I’ve had and the parameters offered to me and in terms of those opportunities, I felt like I could do more, bring something more, and do more of what I want.”
The star added that a part of him struggles to say no when offered the chance to direct a film. The former stuntman disclosed, “It’s almost like a big ego dump when you ask yourself, ‘Okay, do I believe I can handle it?’ I still have a certain competitive mentality. I say, ‘No, that’s cool and I feel very flattered and very honored,’ but at the same time, I also want to take a swing. It’s like Rocky. I need to know.”
