Austin Butler talked about having to choose between working on ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.’

The 32-year-old actor confirmed that he was in contention for the film starring Tom Cruise but couldn’t audition for the role as it conflicted with Quentin Tarantino’s film.

During a conversation with Josh Horowitz for his ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast at The 92nd Street Y in New York, Austin revealed, “In the end, I had to decide whether to go to the screen test for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ or say yes to Quentin Tarantino.” However, because Butler had wanted to work with the 60-year-old Tarantino “for so long,” he ultimately chose the film by the ‘Pulp Fiction’ filmmaker.

The actor added, “I had already met him, so I did that.” Austin, who plays the role of Charles Watson in the film, previously announced that it had “always” been a “dream” of his to work with the ‘Kill Bill’ director. In a conversation on ‘Hot Ones,’ the celebrity revealed, “The first time I heard that – it was just so cool because I’ve talked a lot about how much Quentin means to me, and it’s just always been my dream to work with him.

But he, we’re on set, and he says, ‘Okay, we got this, but we’re gonna do one more. You know why?’ And the whole crew then shouts, ‘Because we love making movies!'”
