London (dpa) – British-American director Christopher Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas are set to be honored with knighthood. This is evident from a statement by the British government. Nolan (53), who recently received an Oscar for the film “Oppenheimer”, will be dubbed a Knight Bachelor, the oldest knighthood in Great Britain. Emma Thomas (52) will be made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Knighthood and other honors in Britain are awarded by the royal household on the recommendation of the government.

The couple, who now have four children, met during their studies at University College London (UCL). Together, they founded the production company Syncopy, with which they produced a whole series of successful films. The historical drama about the “father of the atomic bomb,” American physicist Robert Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy, won a total of seven Oscars this year.
