“Shrek 5” isn’t so Far Far Away – rumored to have a theatrical release in 2025 And Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy are all expected to return to the series.
In April, we reported that Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy all seem eager to return to the enchanting world of the swamp trolls. Now, an employee at NBCUniversal accidentally posted on LinkedIn that “Shrek 5” will be released in 2025, as reported by ComicBook.com.
The work on the fifth film in the series that parodies classic tales is currently being led by Illumination. This studio is known for the “Despicable Me” films and the “Super Mario Bros. Movie” released last spring.
The company’s CEO, Chris Meledandri, personally mentioned that the work on the new “Shrek” is progressing in an interview with Variety. The original actors are “expected” to return, but nothing is confirmed at the moment. But it’s not just “Shrek” that could make a comeback with the help of Illumination:
- We will try to creatively assist in figuring out how we can revive Shrek and add value to many of the existing DreamWorks films when we create new franchises.
Is Illumination the right team to bring back “Shrek”?
